HOPONIT is a Melbourne born lifestyle brand, working collaboratively with local and international artists to create handcrafted quality products. Our thoughtfully curated collection has been hand-picked by HOPONIT Art Director Christo Gillard.

At HOPONIT we care about art, and we love the stories that come with each individual drawing, print, painting and pattern. Each artwork is carefully handled and translated on to quality materials. By working with the Australian public library and museum collections, we are here to celebrate the Australian art landscape through mixing the old and new. To revitalise a uniquely Australian aesthetic into meaningful design and limited-edition products.

Founder, the woman behind the brand

Kaye is a big picture person with energy and drive.  She’s a one-stop shop when it comes to diversity of talent – business strategist, costume designer, community advocate, great cook, lover of sports cars, travel and over the top watches and passionate supporter of the creative arts.

Kaye’s journey with HOPONIT began when she was inspired by our world-class libraries and museums. Kaye decided it was time to raise the bar with design collections based on this incredible artbank. This was the original vision for HOPONIT: limited edition, curated design inspired by art from the vaults.

Kaye loves living in Melbourne, but spent her early years in Queensland and at Burleigh Heads every summer.  The laidback vibe from those early years at Burleigh is an important influence on HOPONIT’s aesthetics.

The team here at HOPONIT (Kaye included) is hands-on – we love to make, pick up a camera or get our hands dirty with printing.  The artisan leanings are what make our brand unique and what fires us up each day.

A progressive and important underground artist, Christo is currently surfing under the banner of HOPONIT.

Christo is an incredibly versatile artist – from designing beach houses up the east coast of Australia; style hunting in Europe, America and Japan; ambience director for the Big Day Out; creating the vision and branding for some of Australia’s greatest restaurateurs; winning an ARIA award for the Gershwin Room in the Esplanade Hotel in Melbourne.

Christo Gillard’s extensive design portfolio, his experience with heritage and his reputation as one of Australia’s most renowned stylists meant that he’s had the perfect background to guide HOPONIT’s curated museum and library designs.

He’s got great individual style and is on the pulse when it comes to contemporary art and music (he’s a vinyl record obsessive).  As HOPONIT’s head stylist, Christo is giving this brand a strong visual identity.

Never far from the ocean during his early life in Cornwall and since coming to Australia, beaches have always featured prominently in Christo’s life.  From St Ives to Biarritz, Burleigh Heads to Crescent Head, Christo has surfed them all.  His design collections draw on the outdoors and the relaxed style of living.  The bold colours of Australia too are reflected in Christo’s work – he’s one of Australia’s foremost experts on colour and we’re lucky to have this expertise to guide HOPONIT’S collections.
